Vacuum Bellows

A vacuum bellows is designed for the opposite loading condition from a standard pressure bellows: instead of resisting outward pressure, it has to resist collapsing inward under negative (below-atmospheric) internal pressure.

How it works

Convolution geometry and wall thickness are engineered for column stability under external atmospheric load pressing in, which is a meaningfully different design case from sizing a bellows against internal pressure pushing out.
