Reinforced Bellows (Wire-Reinforced / Ring-Reinforced)

A reinforced bellows has a wire or solid ring fitted into the root of each convolution, carrying part of the pressure load that would otherwise be borne entirely by the bellows material itself.

How it works

The reinforcing ring stiffens the convolution root against the pressure-induced opening force, which allows a thinner bellows wall at a given pressure rating and reduces the tendency toward squirm (buckling instability) at higher pressures.
